The Newborn Experience
The birth of a child marks a defining moment in your life. From this day forward, everything changes. There is a new definition of what your life is worth living for. A new reason to love. Your baby grows so fast. Let us help you remember those little rosebud lips, tiny toes, chubby cheeks, and lil’ lashes. They are only this little for a while. And soon, your little one will no longer fit so tiny nestled in your arms. With a portrait session at Sweetness Photography we will help you…..let that beginning never end by recording your family legacy. We want to help you commemorate this special, once in a lifetime moment.
OUR STYLE IS….
As you can see by our recent portfolio, our color palette is simple, natural, pure, neutral & calm. We use neutral colors, creamy whites, grey, blush and blacks to create elegant portraits that are sure to be treasured for generations. We believe timeless and classic portraits are those that focus on the baby and not all the “stuff”. Your baby is the focus of your portraits and our time together. Not distracting trendy props. With the absence of distracting props allows the tender, pure emotion to be felt and palpated without the use of words.
WHEN SHOULD I SCHEDULE MY RESERVATION?
Before your baby is born! It is so important to plan ahead. Capturing your newborn within the first two weeks of life while they are still sleepy and curled up, can make all the difference in your newborn portraits. Ideally, newborn photography is best scheduled 5-14 days after birth. During these first few days, your baby curl’s up easily and stay asleep longer. We recommend our newborn sessions around 5-14 days but this is completely dependent upon birth weight. Smaller babies (5-6 pounds) may be photographed around 12-14 days, while as bigger or late term babies should be photographed around 5-12 days.
With limited availability, Tracey’s schedule fills up quickly, so please call to schedule your newborn appointment before your baby is born. Bookings are done on a first paid retainer basis. Since we never really know when your little one will arrive we will put your due date on our calendar to hold a spot for you. When your baby is born we will move your appointment accordingly.
If your baby came early or if your baby is already born, don’t worry! There is usually always a little wiggle room in the schedule to accommodate. And if your baby can’t make it within the 1st couple weeks due to extenuating circumstances, don’t panic! As a mom of a NICU grad, Tracey understand life happens and just be assured older babies take beautiful portraits too. 🙂
IS ONE WEEK TOO EARLY FOR MY SESSION?
Absolutely not! Newborn babies photograph best between 6-10 days old. During these first few days, they are still very sleepy and love to curl up as if they were still nestled in the womb.
SHOULD MY SESSION BE IN-STUDIO -OR- ON-LOCATION?
We offer fine art newborn photography in studio or on-location in the comfort of your residence. While we prefer and love our studio because we have consistent lighting and props at hand, we understand some of our clients desire on-location sessions to capture the lifestyle of a baby’s nursery and sentimental settings in your home. Our on-location sessions are lifestyle and unposed, more documentary in style.
WHAT’S THE DURATION OF MY SESSION?
Newborn sessions are scheduled during the week at 10am and can take up to three hours. This leaves plenty of time for feedings, diaper changes and working on the your newborn’s schedule. Before your session, you will receive VERY specific detailed instructions. Images on the website are a result of parents that followed these instructions. For the most successful session following these instructions are a MUST. We can’t wait to meet your new little one.
